This society was set up to cater for everyone with an interest in music. For all you budding musicians out there, we run regular lessons, workshops and gigs all year long. Not only that though, we also organise parties, discounted concert tickets and trips away, which means there's something for everyone! Local Authority Publishes Employee Bank Details to the World Wide Web
The *********** County Council have published a Database containing 44 of its employees details, including bank account and sort code numbers to the Internet. The timestamp of this database is the 15 September 2003 which would indicate that this information may have being available on the Internet since that date.
Having validated that the Employees are or have being employed by the *********** County Council, it is reasonable to assume that the Bank Sort and Bank Account Numbers are also valid.
From this same computer it is also possible to download an Information Technology Inventory which is available since the 28 October 2005, and contains the complete register and locations of all the Local Authorities Hardware and Software Assets.
A visitor can also download with impunity hundreds of other electronic documents such as the ********* County Councils Annual Budget for the Financial Year ended 31 December 2007, as well as Local Authority Meeting Agendas, and Minutes.
All of this information is generally available on the Internet and indexed by Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo, etc.
The website is not in the true sense a Website, rather it is a webserver and is just an open Directory Index of a Computer Server and its contents, which is used by the *********** County Council.
This information is available to download by anyone visiting this website and could be used by parties who may not have the best of intentions, and could use it to defraud any of the employees listed in the database or use this information to provide a fake identity.
This serious breach in security only demonstrates that either *********** County Council is blatantly disregarding normal Security measures, or that the *********** County Council have no real understanding about the technology they are using.
It is expected that this breach of security would be in contravention to the Data Protection Act 1988, and is also exposing its employees to the posability of serious Fraud.

India Building Fund's Blog (LGCSB Server)
The India Building Fund's Blog seems to be a blog updated for a while by a number of the resident Bloggers at Mobhaile.ie a Website registered to the Local Government Computer Services Board, a public sector organisation.
The LGCSB is also rolling out ePayments which is a hosted online credit and debit card facility hosted in the LGCSB that enables customers to make online payments for goods and services to Local Authorities.
I for one would not trust such a Service from a body who can not even recognise that its services are being SPAMMED, and who knows what else.
Also as of the 14 April, 2008 the last Annual Report was from July 25, 2005, what happened to 2006 and 2007?
Another Blog I came across was India Building Fund's, this Blog has 12 Posts and 30,113 Comments.

Do you need a Forum?
A Forum is without doubt a great asset to any Website if the people who use it are able to and capable of sharing information relative to the Website, for example a Website set up for a Property Auctioneer should only contain Topics that relate in some way to the business of Buying/Selling Property. If the content goes too much off-topic then this can damage the Forum and make it unusable for what its intended use is and can damage you and your Websites reputation.
Before you choose to set up a Forum ask yourself some fundamental questions:
- Do I know what I want to achieve by setting up the Forum?
- Do I have the technical know how/expertise to choose the fit-for-purpose software?
- Do I have a budget to procure licensed OpenSource Software?
- Will I use a Freeware OpenSource Solution?
- Do I know what features I require in the Forum?
- Do I have the time/expertise to evaluate the different available solutions?
- Do I have the time to administer the Forum once it goes Live?
- Are there people whom I know and trust and would be willing to Moderate on the Forum?
- Do I have the time/expertise to keep the Software up-to-date in the future?
- Do I have the time to check the Forum content on a regular basis?
These are some of the key questions a person should ask themselves before they make a decision to launch a Forum on their Website. But remember that when your Forum goes live it requires constant tending and surveillance, and the more popular the Forum the more work there is to do.
So before you make your decision do your homework and see whether or not you really do need a Forum.

Slowing down the SPAM
I have come in for some quite harsh criticism in my effort to expose the problem of SPAM, and the amateurish way some Websites are run by their respective owners.
Some of this criticism may even be justified, but as someone who has being in the IT industry for a very long time and have trained to be a professional, I find it wrong the way one of the most important technologies is being abused, not only by the abusers (SPAMMERS), but also by the amateurs who are setting up Websites just for the fun of it without any real knowledge as to what they are doing.
This blasé approach will only damage the technology and its usefulness.
In one case I was Banned from an Irish Forum accused for Spamming this Website although I had a Thread relating to the problem and had one link to the site. It was an active thread until one of the Moderators accused me of being a Bad Parent. I of course defended myself, but soon after this incident I was banned, and the Administrator for the section I was banned from is an Internet Marketing Company.
Any way here are some tips for people who are running phpBB Forums to help them make their Forum a bit more secure.

As someone who knows this technology as well as being a realest I know that SPAM is not something that can be stopped all the time, but good housekeeping can stop at least 90% of the pest. The other 10% is up to the vigilance of the person responsible for the Website.

Over 100,000 bloggers use the company’s host Blogsome, making it the busiest website hosted in Ireland. Cognotent’s aggregator, IrishBlogs.ie was awarded “Best Technical Contribution” at 2006 Irish Blog Awards. The company recently established a press release service at PressReleaseIreland.com. Cognotent has developed a number of applications arising out of the indexation of large volumes of web text and link information .
What a load of Bloggers, I wonder just how many are actually actively participating in Blogging and how many are just SPAMMERS.

Irish Internet Association
The Irish Internet Association is the professional body for those conducting business via the internet from Ireland. It has been and remains one of the driving forces behind the adoption of the medium. Established in 1997, the IIA provides leadership to enterprises and society conducting business in Ireland. The IIA is a strong voice for its 400 plus membership. The aim of the Association is to Connect, Inform and Promote.
The IIA also allow SPAMMERS to post to their Blog Site see Blog Entry http://blog.iia.ie/wp-content/themes/blix/comments.php?blog=pharmacy&name=Codeine
The IIA were informed about this in May of 2007 and still today they have done nothing to stop the apread of SPAM, and are allowing the continuation of this practice throughout their online Blog.

The Website for the IT Sligo's Students Union was brought to the attention of the College in June of 2007 for the amount of pornography being displayed and the apparent lack of management on an Open Forum as you did not require membership to post at the time.
In September of 2007 this content was removed. However there are 8,727 Registered Users and only 493 Articles.
Browsing through the Registered Users you will come across the SPAMMERS. "domglot" who is advertising "Free Porn", "accizelia" from Liberia advertising "Free Sex Movies", and "infessWhete" advertising "Xanax".
On a quick calculation there are no more than 100 Registered Users that are not SPAMMERS. The rest of the Registered Users have a link to some Item that would not be normally associated with a Website such as this.
